Distinguished Nurse Researcher Award

The Council on Nursing Research is pleased to announce this year's Distinguished Nurse Researcher:

Mary W. Byrne, PhD, MPH, FAAN

Dr. Byrne is an outstanding researcher in the area of vulnerable children and families. She has conducted a wide body of research on issues of maternal-infant attachment and infant/toddler development. Specifically, Dr. Byrne has conducted experimental studies examining ways to enrich maternal-infant bonding in prison settings.

Dr. Byrne received a PhD from Adelphi University and is currently a Professor at Columbia University School of Nursing and the Stone Foundation & Elsie D. Fish Professor of Clinical Health Care for the Underserved. In 2003, she entered the American Academy of Nursing as a Fellow. Throughout her career, she has served in many national groups including the NYSNA Council of Nurse Researchers 1991-1994. Dr. Byrne is widely published and her research has been funded by The National Institute of Nursing Research and the National Institutes of Health Center for Evidence-Based Practice in the Underserved.

The Foundation presented Dr. Byrne with her award at its dinner at NYSNA's annual convention. This year the dinner was held at the Convention Center in Atlantic City, NJ.


Last year's Distinguished Nurse Researcher,Carol S. Brewer, PhD, RN, presented her research on Longitudinal Analysis of Nursing Workforce Behavior at the Foundation's dinner at the NYSNA Annual Convention in Atlantic City.
